Film scoring........for dummies

Complete Guide to Film Scoring

The art and Business of Writing Music for Movies and TV

2nd edition

Davis, Richard

"[...] essential for anyone interested in the business, process and procedures of writing music for film or television [...]"

"[...] film composer richard davis's complete guide to film scoring is indeed complete. It is the only book i know that has all the fundamentals of composing music for a film [...]"

Ever wanted to be a film score composer? Well too bad, because that's probably not going to happen, because you live in utah. If you want to learn how it's done, or what the process is, this book is for you.

This book goes very in-depth on how a film is scored. It goes step by step on what happens, gives you advice, tips, and tricks in the business.

It also includes a few interviews with some of the most successful composers in the film industry.

This book is really informative, and will help you out a lot if you are looking into becoming a film composer. It doesn't teach you music, it teaches you how to apply your music skills into the crazy world of the film business.

I would also recommend this book to film-makers as well as composers. It doesn't hurt to know what other people do and what they put into their jobs.

Davis explains the hard stuff in an easy way. He takes the hard to understand stuff, rips it apart into bite size pieces so you can understand it better.

a lost, but found world.

THE LOST WORLD
Crichton, Michael

"An edge-of-the-seat tale"
--St. Petersburg Times

"One fact about this sequel to jurassic park stands out above all: it follows a book that, with spinoffs [...] proved to be the most profitable literary venture ever."
--Publishers weekly

8/10

Crichton's science fiction thriller has once again proved how great of a writer Crichton is.

Since the disaster at Jurassic Park, the animals have been roaming free for six years. But somebody stumbled upon the island. The secret is no more. They are about to be shut down, so John Hammond, who is no longer the head of INGEN sends a team to document the animals in their natural habitat.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good read. Also anyone who loves paleontology or dinosaurs. There is a lot of language, so you have been warned.

Eddie Fantastic

-Heimerdinger, Chris-

"This book has got to be one of the most imaginative things I've ever read. It is exciting, funny, scary, romantic--everything you need for a good read."

"[...] held my attention, was entertaining, exciting, and provoked genuine thought. All in all, an excellent book."

9.5/10

Eddie Fantastic is about a teenager named Eddie Fanta. He is unpopular, and is going through some troubles. His grandpa has just died and his parents are going through a harsh divorce.

He meets an old man, Louis Koffrinkoff, a master scientist and inventer. He stumbles upon his inventions. They change his life.

Louis' inventions are not 'futuristic' like you might find in other novels. They are based on science, so they are more believable.

Louis gives him a special and secret invention, that takes Eddie on an adventure of a lifetime.

The theme of this novel is that with the right tools, you can accomplish anything, even if it's above your ability.

I would recommend this book to ANYBODY! It is a great book. It makes you think, and has a great story. If you like other Heimerdinger novels, then you will love this one. I think it is his best novel.

The novel is told in third person, so you get many different point of views and you get all the information you need to figure out what is going on.

Breaking Through the barrier of Filmmaking

BREAKING IN
How 20 Film Directors got their start

•  Jarecki, Nicholas

Report by Landon Hill

This book is not a narrative. It is a compilation of twenty short stories, basically short auto-biographies rather, of how twenty Feature Film Directors, big and small, got their big break into Hollywood.

Rating: 9/10
Warnings: Not much, but a little language here and there, the book is basically written by 21 different people, including the author, so some stories may have more language than others.

This book is a must read for aspiring film-makers, screenwriters, and film students alike. Jarecki chose a very diverse range of directors to tell their stories on their first major feature film.

Although this book is intended for filmmakers, I would still recommend this to all audiences because filmmaking (or going to the movies, per se) is such a big part of the american culture, that we cannot afford to miss it.

Jarecki doesn't show off his writing in this book. He lets others answer his simple one or two sentence questions. The book ranges from interviews from Edward Zwick (Glory) Peter Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber).

With it's engaging interviews, young film makers get a first person look into the film making world. The stories, told by the directors themselves give exciting, sad, and sometimes funny stories on how they directed their first feature film, and made that huge break in Hollywood.

I would recommend this book to all film makers, young and old; big and small. This does not tell you how to get into the film industry, it merely gives you a great look into the lives of other directors and how they got their chance.

"[...] their stories prove immensely entertaining, detailing the cutthroat competition and illumination the crazy luck that often leads to a filmmaker's first break. "Will Hickman - American Library Association

I’m happiest when … I am listening to music and with friends

Someday I’m going to …
be famous

When I’m really down, what I want to do is … hang with friends, then listen to music
I feel anxious … right before a test.

I like people who … are hot

All it takes to make me happy is … not much

What I really want to do is … move to California

I wish that … I could move to California

I don’t like when people are … leaning on my shoulder

A person really should ... be nice

I just hate it that … people are stupid

I just love it that ... people are nice
